Nashville Country Singers

Country singers butchering the Hits of '69.

I've heard some good singers occasionally screw up a word or two in a cover song, but "Hits of '69" by the Nashville Country Singers takes the cake. Apparently, nobody bothered to give these folks copies of the lyrics to the songs they were expected to sing. Combine that with flat music and off-key vocals and you have what was certainly one of the most exciting new albums of the year.

Check out how the Country Singers butcher two of my favorite songs. On "Aquarius", the moon is no longer in the seventh house, but the serpent's house. Then the phrase "no more falsehoods or derisions" somehow becomes -- get this -- "thunderbolts of long duration". Whoa! But that's nothing compared to what they do to "Proud Mary". Incredibly, they don't even sing the phrase "Proud Mary" once throughout the entire song. Among other flubs, these guys "seen a lotta plays in Memphis" and "Humped a lotta grain in New Orleans". I don't know what they were taking in Nashville back in 1969 but I sure want some for my next party.

Aquarius (Real Audio) Harmony and understanding... except for understanding of the lyrics to this song.
Proud Mary (Real Audio) Trust me, this is nothing to be proud of.

oh, do i have comments about nashville, george strait summed it up with, murder on music row. nashville used to be fun, singing used to be fun, but, ive come to realize, you cant buy what i beleive in. there is no good talent anymore, sad to say, there isnt really anyone thats average,im always in and out of nashville, was their last week nothing more than a bunch of greedy communist that sold out, that sold their self short of a dollar, they have tore eveything down that nashville stood for, turned its back on its fore fathers, the ones that layed the foundation of what i beleive, might as damn well tear down the mother church, you know, the grand ole opry and put in more parking,or hell, i dont know, maybe the gaylord first national bank,if it aint broke ,why do you want to fix it,and as far as talent,an old friend, there in nashville once said, you are gonna be good or you gonna be great, good dont go no where,,now seperate yourself separate,,,,,,,,thats what i did (06-08-2007)

Hey guys. I am in love with country music, and I hope that one day I can be at Nashville Star. How do I try out I am from Indian Head, Saskatchewan Canada. My favorite singer is Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood. Country music is the only music that I listen too, because it actually has meaning to what they are trying to get across. Hi, I don't know if anyone can help me. But there's this song that I have been looking for for many years now. It was one of my most favorite songs ever. I cant remember the name of the siger or the song but I remember the video. So if someone out there knows the name please contact me. Ok, I remember the woman she was Native American and in the video there was her and this guy they had a giant wall of Ice between them and they were using hammers to break down that wall to get to eachother. The song was about people of different raise. So if anyone out there knows what the name of the song is and the female singers name please send me a letter to tell me.
Thanks (03-28-2007)

I got to this site from an old link on Boing Boing regarding Mrs Miller. The article and the comments were fun so I clicked on Nashville Country Singers next. I don't know what happened, but as of this writing I am one of only two commenters who has read the article! I scrolled down here thinking I was gonna read some reminiscinces from folks who had this album back in the day and all I got was randomness.
Jessica and Tinkerbell, this is not the place to be discovered for your singing voices. And Georgia, if I had Toby Keith's email address I wouldn't give it to you! Back to the topic of Nashville Country Singers, please, people. (03-20-2007)

Hi, I would love to get on the Oprah and tell the true facts about the music business! I ask, why the do "majors" buy alot of 'indie labels' and never promote the artists or bands? I know alot of artists and bands that were/are signed to the majors, or there 'sub-labels', and were never heard of! Why is that? Want me to mention that artists/bands names and the sub'labels? I have them! So, what is better, a major, a sub-label; to the majors; or an indie label? I feel there are ALL in the same boat! I know the majors hate me, but I know what's HOT and what's NOT! I don't believe in the 'numbers game' and how many hits you have on your web-site! What it comes down to is 'your heart, soul and your true believe' in being you...and not much else! I love music busines and all type of artists/bands, but why does ALL of the music business be made of such "'s" and make up alot of 'false dreams' for alot of people...those working A & R, to managers, etc....? Funny? I never had a phone call back about these type of postings or any feedback! So, does anyone care or have a heart? I feel if you do, show it to me! Happy New 2007 to everyone and God Bless, Jim (01-03-2007)
