Sebastian Cabot, Actor

Actor Sebastian Cabot performing 'dramatic readings' of Bob Dylan songs... sweet!

I'd been looking for this record ever since I heard "It Ain't Me Babe" on the Rino Records' Golden Throats album. It's English actor Sebastian Cabot -- you may remember him from his role as Mr. French on TV's Family Affair -- performing Bob Dylan songs like you've never heard them before.

And what a performance it is. From "Who Killed Davey Moore" to "Blowin' In The Wind" and "Like A Rolling Stone", Cabot's "dramatic readings" blew me away, adding more new dimensions to these great songs than even Dylan himself could have imagined. They don't make actors like Sebastian Cabot anymore and they sure don't make records like this one, either!

Update: In 2007, Rev-Ola re-released "Sebastian Cabot, Actor" on CD! What took them so long? In any case, now you can enjoy the Frenchman's incredible Dylan stylings without the hassle of finding a vinyl copy at a garage sale and pulling your turntable out of cold storage. Just order it online!

Who Killed Davey Moore (MP3) Why? And what's the reason for?
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (MP3) I bet Dylan thought twice about letting people cover his songs when he heard this.

this is just one of many dylan cover attempts done not so much because they're great songs but because dylan can't sing or play! (12-26-2002)

I think it was in the 1980's, Sebastian Cabot played Santa in a remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" but it has vanished off the face of the earth. I can't find the movie or any mention of it. Can anyone help? (12-17-2002)

Ohhhhh the horror. And I thought Richey Havens had no shame. . . (10-18-2002)

Joseph Gallant ( says:
In addition to his famous role as Mr. French, Sebastian Cabot was a regular on two other TV series.

In the early sixties, he was a detective on "Checkmate", which ran for a couple of years on CBS.

And in the early seventies, he narrated "Ghost Story", an anthology of ghost tales that aired on NBC (I think Cabot may have also starred in a couple of episodes in addition to serving as narrator). I believe that after 13 episodes, the format was changed to general horror stories, the show was retitled "Circle Of Fear", and Cabot's hosting and narrations were dropped. The revised "Circle Of Fear" didn't do much better; it was gone at the end of the season. (08-21-2002)

Cabot did have to seek permission from Dylan's publishing company to do this, yes? What spell did he cast? Sebastian Cabot, Shaman? May God have mercy on his soul! (08-08-2002)

Any one who makes cover versions of mr. Dylan's work should die. What an outrage! (04-02-2002)

This album was to good for me to own. (09-15-2001)

Eric ( says:
Ah yes, those lush baroque strings take me back to the 19th century garden parties of Europe. (Yeah, I know I don't know what I'm talking about.) However, the voice brings me back even further, to the times when the rack, the stock, and the iron maiden were used as torture devices. This guy could beat the living shit out of William Shatner any day. (07-01-2001)

The Lone Beatnik ( says:
Definitely a one-trick pony that needs to be put to rest. This is weird: even for my standards! Harsh. Very very harsh. (06-17-2001)

Where where where can I get a copy of this? BEAUTIFUL!! (06-23-2000)

Smorgy Fjeldsted ( says:
I have more understanding of Full Moon Pygmy Mating Rituals than Mr. French has of Dylan lyrics. I'd be happier to see a rodent floating in my Super Bowl party punchbowl than I would be if I had to listen to both sides of this album all the way through. Couldn't resist picking up a Near Mint white label promo copy in a thrift store but AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!, it's totally unlistenable, even for low volume background noise. I'll keep mine with my other Dylan ripoff albums, but I get woozy just thinking about derbies and canes. This one made my dog barf--and she's deaf. (02-02-2000)

>>for the silhouette in the background is that supposed to be bob? can't be- it must be the guy who sebastian just ate. >>> i couldn't even begin to tell you what i'm thinking about that hairy figure image over the head of msr cabot. ;) (01-13-2000)

William Kent ( says:
Is there anyway to get this "Classic" on CD???? (11-13-1999)

Senior Choad ( says:
A friend of mine used to know Mr. Cabot and his family. He said the album was prominently displayed in his living room, below a garish painting of a clown. This is absolutely true. Sebastion Cabot sings...truly a turd on a stick if there ever was one. (10-17-1999)
