We're The Banana Splits

Your childhood TV rock-n-roll idols, on vinyl!

One of the greatest things about the music of the 60's is how it accessible it was to just about anyone. The cool kids had the Beatles and the Stones; middle America watched the Monkees; the hippies had the Dead and Jefferson Airplane; even Mom and Dad could swing to a homogenized version of Lennon & McCartney done up by Enoch Light or Tony Bennett. And for the toddlers, there were these weirdos, the Banana Splits.

I was suprised at how good some of the songs on this hard to find LP are (thanks to my friend Gary who let me borrow his copy). I'm not saying the Banana Splits were the next Beatles, but compared to the kind of music they make for kids today (the Barney theme comes to mind) this stuff kicks ass. Let's hear it for Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and Snork!

The Tra La La song is surely one of the greatest pieces of music ever!Certainly, the happiest song around. It evokes instant happy memories watchin the Banana Splits on Saturday morning. (07-30-2006)

I was in the Air Force in 1968, when I came home on furlough. The Banana Splits show was to debut on a Saturday morning, but there was 30 minute preview on Friday night. I can honestly tell you, I never laughed so hard in all my life. I even fell out of my chair. My mother heard me laughing at the neighbor's house. The scene where Fleagle takes out the trash, and it jumps back out of the can was not bad enough. Then, Christmas packages, toys, and all kinds of things came flying out. IT WAS HILARIOUS. The next morning, I watched the show again, and still laughed like a crazy fool. If anyone out there knows if the show is on DVD and how I can get a copy, please respond to my e-mail address. LONG LIVE THE SPLITS. (07-28-2006)

Hello fellow Banana Fans........
If anyone would take the decency to place the entire Banana Splits Shows onto a DVD Collection Box Set for Sale will become a God or Godess in my opinion. TV Shows as brilliant as this need to be Archived for future generations of children (grown and small alike) for eternity. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone do it. I may be 45 Years Old however I still enjoy a good laugh as these Guy's used to make me do. Cartoon/TV Shows these days do not even make me consider having a laugh let alone a chuckle.....
Keep Splitting all you Banana Fans. (07-06-2006)

Sean (ugly_at_@frightenstein_dot_.com) says:
They were among the greatest. I tip my hat to Jeff Winkless, aka Jeffrey Brock, better known to us as Fleegle who passed away on June 26. He was 64, maybe 65. Bingo and Drooper were played by two of his brothers, one of whom is currently supervising the email list Jeff has been running as a Banana Splits fansite, most likely the only authentic one in existence. He'll be missed as much as his voice counterpart, Paul "Tigger" Winchell. (07-04-2006)

"In 1983, Bob Marley and the Wailers released the song "Buffalo Soldier" on the album Confrontation. Some have said the song was highly deriviative of "The Tra La La Song." (06-23-2006)
