Poe through the Glass Prism

Quoth the Raven, "Oh my God!"

Here's another one of those "concept albums" that people used to do back in the 70's before musicians realized that it was a bad bet to expect people to have any interest in actual artistry. This one has the bold idea of recording a series of rock tunes set to the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe. All in all, it's not a bad idea, and one that must have been largely lost on the dope-smoking rock-n-roll record buyers of the era.

The music on this album is really pretty cool. Check out "The Raven", which I understand hit the charts for at least a little while in 1974. Its wailing Hammond organ sounds and monotone vocal delivery are pretty catchy. I also enjoy the way the band combines early-Beatles haircuts with late-Beatles costuming. Who can possibly resist a band with a velvet jacket and a giant black bird? Not me!

This 4 guys were not just good. They were super great. I can not remmeber them sounding better.
Augie, Tom, Rick, and Lou truly got better with time.
They are up there running with the big Dogs.
Gene Guarilia #20, (4 time Boston Cetics champion 59-63) currently playing bass guitar with the www.cadillacsband.com. Was very impressed with TGP performance. Coming from Gene that is a super compliment! Gene also ask me if TGP is going to perform again. Tom I guess the ball is in your court now.
Hope to see you soon.

When I was only 10 years old my mother used to take me to see the Glass Prism at St Pat's dances in West Side. My Godmother used to watch the teenagers at the dance. Back then it was Tom, Rick, Augie & Carl. I know Carl left the band in 1971 when I was 12 and joined the Buoys. I was wondering if Carl is going to be at the concert. I cannot wait until Saturday to see the concert. Roberta Lynn Cerra (06-06-2008)

Mike S says:
Answer to WTF question. The Glass Prism Band is a band that played alot of high school dances and prom thousand of gigs. If you are not a baby boomer you would not have heard of them. They were the local group from north east Pennsylvannia that came out of the garage around 1963. TGP band set the standard for all local bands. They were the most popular band, a part of are high school years. After thirty six years they got togather to help the Egar Allen Poe National Historic site in Philadelphia,Pa. TGP put music to Egar's poems. check out the song The Raven.

TGP is going to perform late spring 08 in Scranton, Pa. I am sure it will sell out.

Rock on, Mike S

Dear Friends,

Following their successful reunion engagement at the German Society
Theater for the Edgar Allen Poe Society in Philly, The Glass Prism are
currently in rehearsals. They plan to reunite "one more time." The date
and location is not determined.

Many suggestions have come in from various friends, fans, promoters,
etc. They value your opinion.

A "documentary" on TGP is in production (check out the trailer at the
website. www.glassprismband.com

The Philly engagement and the "new engagement" are crucial for the
completion of the documentary.
Of course, TGP look forward to playing together for their fans. That
remains high on the list of priorities. Looking forward to hearing your
thoughts.

Thank you very much.

Lynne
